The Third single from the latest album, V, the song stands out as being one of the brightest and most upbeat ones to date. The video glows with vivacity, using Sunny Los Angeles as the background for its setting. The video shatters the fourth wall as Adam Levine tells the camera, “December 6th 2014, we’re gonna drive around L.A and hit every wedding we possibly can. It’s gonna be awesome.” The video has its own unique quality. Every time the screen drops and the band is revealed, we see the bride and groom completely taken back from the surprise. What comes next is a colossal dance party, as all the guests jump out of their seats and begin roaring in amazement. Levine’s lyrics are about as perfect as they can get, with his falsetto in the chorus as effortlessly breezy as he sings, “Sugar, yes please / Won’t you come and put it down on me / I’m right here, cause I need / Little love and little sympathy.” Compared to the other tracks on V, which are more expressively serious in nature, “Sugar” gives listeners a song with a fresh vibe, impressive with its funky bass tunes, danceable rhythm and sweet lyrics. It stands as the strongest track of the band’s album.
