After a fantastic extended opening weekend of 5 days, Dhanush’s Vada Chennai, which is his third consecutive collaboration with national award-winning filmmaker Vetrimaaran, grossed Rs 27.9 Crore in Tamil Nadu. Vada Chennai has registered the career-best opening figures for Dhanush in his home state. The film achieved this success in spite of the censor board giving it adult certification. The ‘A’ certificate failed to deter Dhanush fans from swamping the cinemas theaters thanks to the Dasara and Ayudha Pooja festival weekend.
In the USA, Vada Chennai grossed over the $300K mark and during the opening weekend the movie collected Rs 46.28 lakhs in the UK, Rs 44.52 lakhs in Australia and Rs 30.84 lakhs in Malaysia. Vada Chennai has been produced by Lyca and Wunderbar Films.
On the opening day in Chennai alone, the film grossed Rs 81 lakhs. With this, Dhanush’s movie gets the fifth best opening of 2018 in the city after Kaala, Seema Raja, Vishwaroopam 2, and Chekka Chivantha Vaanam. In six days, the film earned Rs 3.31 crore from the city. Meanwhile, the film’s worldwide gross is said to be Rs 42.5 crore from the first five days.
