Actress Jaya Prada, who once ruled Tollywood along with Sri Devi and later Bollywood in the eighties, is back in Tamil films after a long hiatus with Keni.
56-year old Jaya Prada, who was last spotted in Kollywood in Kamal Haasan’s Dasavathaaram, is playing the lead role along with the likes of Suhasini, Rekha, Anu Haasan, Nassar, Parthiepan, ‘Thalaivasal’ Vijay, M.S. Bhasakar and ‘Black’ Pandi. The film’s audio-launch was held recently in Chennai.
“Keni (Kinar in Malayalam) is my first film in Kollywood; all the seven films I have made in Mollywood so far are issues of social relevance. Script of Keni involves occurrences along Tamil Nadu’s border with Kerala. It’s about the struggle waged by a Kerala-born woman from Tamil Nadu and the script is set in pre-Independence days. It is a commercial venture which speaks elaborately about the drinking water crisis.
“Naushad Sheriff is the film’s cinematographer while Jayachandran has scored the music. The film also has a song sung by SPB and K.J. Yesudas, the first time they have come together to sing a song after 26 years after their super-duper hit song Kaattukuyilu in Rajini’s Thalapathi. The song has come out very well in music by C.S. Sam,” concludes director Nishaath.
