Shooting for director Priyadarshan and versatile Malayalam superstar Mohanlal upcoming movie ‘Marakkar: the Lion of Arabian Sea’ is scheduled to begin on December 1 at the Ramoji Film City in Hyderabad.The film attempts to re-tell the tale of Kunhali Marakkar, who was the naval chief of the Zamorin of Calicut – present day Kozhikode. Marakkar was the first naval chief of the Zamorin to have organised the first of its kind naval defense of the then Indian coastline.
Mohanlal is essaying the role of ‘Marakkar’, while his son Pranav plays a comic role as the ‘young Mohanlal’. Keerthy Suresh of ‘Mahanati’ fame and daughter of producer Suresh Kumar and yesteryear actress Maneka essays a key role in the movie.The star cast of the movie includes Madhu, Manju Warrier, other south India and Hindi film actors in addition to four actors from the UK and one Chinese actor. Antony Perumbavoor, Santhosh T. Kuruvilla and C.J. Roy are producing the film.
After the 2016 hit film ‘Oppam’, both Priyadarshan and Mohanlal will again try to prove ‘Marakkar’ to be a superhit film.
Film Production Designer Sabu Cyril is working on the sets, while Thiru is cranking up the camera. Director Priyadarshan has decided to experiment with three different music directors to compose one song each, and the fourth music director is expected to compose only an instrumental song.The shooting of the movie is expected to end on March 15 2019 and the film is likely to release in 2020.
