What’s it about…
Not much has been divulged about the plot or theme of ‘Njan Samvidhanam Cheyyum’, except that it has got a lot to do with cinema and the passion for cinema. Balachandra Menon, who himself does the lead role, plays a character who has a strong passion for cinema. He plays Krishnadas, who is an official working with the NFDC. His wife Gayathry is a bank employee while their daughter Pinky is a Mass Communication student. The story of the film develops through these pivotal characters and blends humour with intelligent thoughts, in typical Balachandra Menon style. The film itself is tagged ‘A typical Balachandra Menon film’.
While Balachandra Menon himself does the lead role, playing Krishnadas, it’s Gayathry who becomes Gayathry. Debutante Dakshina becomes Pinky. The film has as one of its highlights the coming together of yesteryears’ successful onscreen pair Shankar and Menaka after a long gap. Also in key roles are Madhu, Sreekanth Sasikanth, Renji Panicker, Vineeth, Sunil Sukhada, Kalabhavan Shajon, Kochupreman, Sudheer Karamana, P Sreekumar, Bhagyalakshmi, Raveendran, Dharmajan, Viji Thampy, Poojapura Radhakrishnan, Kaviyoor Ponnamma etc.
Balachandra Menon is one of the most versatile of film personalities in Malayalam. He has made his mark as an actor, director, script-writer, producer, distributor, composer, singer, editor etc and has churned out many hits, especially family flicks. He had also won the National Award for the Best Actor in 1998 for his performance in his own film, ‘Samaantharangal’. Balachandra Menon, who is known for his versatility and grip over the medium of cinema, has also introduced many actors- Shobhana, Parvathy, Karthika, Manianpillai Raju, Annie, Nandini etc.
‘Njan Samvidhanam Cheyyum’ is produced under the banner of KPR Films.
Balachandra Menon, who directs the movie, also writes the script and is also in charge of the music department. Jemin Jom Ayyaneth is the cinematographer while it is Pradeep Shankar who takes care of the editing part. Veteran Poovachal Khader pens the lyrics for the film.
