Five low budget movies that kept away from Dasara releases are set to release today and try their luck. The films are Veera Bhoga Vasantha Rayalu (VBVR), Ratham, 2 Friends, Aishwaryabhimastu and Tantrika.
Of the five movies, VBVR generated enough pre-release interest among the viewers. The film that features Nara Rohit, Sri Vishnu, Sudheer Babu and Shriya Saran is a mystery thriller directed by Indrasena. As VBVR showed promise, its producers made a gamble and released it two days earlier in the US market. The producers hoped that it could become a hit with positive word of mouth. But their strategy backfired.
The producers believed their movie’s content would appeal to the US audience and felt it would set the social media on fire by the time it hits the screens in India. But with disastrous reports from US premieres, the buzz on the movie slumped to zero in the Indian markets and the online ticket bookings collapsed. With this silly marketing strategy, the producers appear to have learnt a hard lesson. Meanwhile, Ratham looks like a clone of RX 100.
