- Story : Puri Jagannadh
Not too long ago, Puri Jagannadh was one of the top filmmakers of Telugu cinema. Series of duds might have fallen in his kitty, but there is no denying fact that he is a star maker who gave a fresh lease of life to actors like Mahesh Babu with ‘Pokiri’ and Ravi Teja with ‘Idiot’.With his usual ‘Tapori’ type movies on which he heavily relied no longer giving him hits, Puri has attempted a never touched theme ‘reincarnation’ for ‘Mehbooba’. Featuring his son Akash and Neha Shetty, the movie has garnered good positive buzz with interesting teaser and trailer. Amid raised expectations, ‘Mehbooba’ has finally hit the screens today. Let’s whether ‘Mehebooba’ gives Puri Jagannadh the much-needed respite or not.
‘Mehbooba’ is a daring attempt by Puri Jagannadh with a theme that can be applicable to all age groups with no regional barriers. The love story set in 1971 Indo-Pak war backdrop raises the curiosity to an extent. The previous love story set in the 1970s backdrop and war episodes are quite interesting, but the proceedings after that have gone haywire. With an average first half and an impressive second half ‘Mehbooba’ is impressive in parts but it’s the climax that spoils all the mood.
Akash Puri is quite impressive as a hero and he’s the next big thing in Tollywood too look out for. If he chooses scripts wisely, he will be the next star in the making. Neha Shetty is beautiful and has done a decent job as the female lead.
On the whole, ‘Mehbooba’ is a refreshing love story with an interesting theme of ‘reincarnation’. Despite few loopholes and lags, the movie is a decent watch.
